A Record is a single row in a dataset (CSV file used for import). Records are comprised of both the long form qualitative textual data for analysis and the accompanying metadata, per commenter. Since a single record may contain many comments, it can be useful to access the original records in full for deeper context while data mining โ€“ what people are saying as a whole, rather than in an isolated comment. You can drill right down to the original Records in Focus Recommendations, Dashboards and on the Analysis page.

Records can be accessed on the Dashboards by clicking on either the Bar Chart or Heatmap widgets.

Bar Charts

Bar chart widgets are clickable can be configured to show absolute volume and relative distribution of sentiment.

Click on any bar in the bar chart to drill down to a paginated view of the Records for that bar.

The Records details popup contains three tabs. The Records tab allows you to view all the Records that contain the selected variable value. The Correlations tab allows you to create bar graphs that show the volume distribution of the selected variable value over a chosen metadata field. The Level of Interest graph shows the volume over time.

Click on View Record to see the entire Record details with all of the associated metadata.

If a Record was translated to English from another language you will see a toggle on the top right of the Record Detail. Flip this toggle to see the Record in the original language.

Heatmap

The Heatmap shows the intersection between two variables. By default it is set to display the number of Comments that contain both a given Topic and a given Opinion, but this can be modified using the filters at the top right of the chart. Choose the variables you which to create an intersection with from the dropdown.

The Heatmap can be expanded at the top right of the widget to view more results. The darker the colour, the higher the volume.

To click through to the associated Records, simply click on the number and the Records page appears below the Heatmap. The Records details popup contains three tabs. The Records tab allows you to view all the Records that contain the selected Topic and Opinion pairing. The Correlations tab allows you to create bar graphs that show the volume distribution of the selected pairing over a chosen metadata field. The Level of Interest graph shows the volume over time.

From there you can drill down to the individual Record to see the original text and all its associated metadata.
